One-Day Workshop on Open Source Software Technologies and FOSSEE @Thassim Beevi Abdul Kader College for Women (Autonomous), Tamil Nadu

Thassim Beevi Abdul Kader College for Women (Autonomous), Kilakarai, Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu, conducted a one-day workshop on Open Source technologies and an awareness session on the FOSSEE project on 27 July 2026. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. S. Sumaya Dawood, Principal, TBAKCW. Mr, Mohamed Kasim Khan M, National Coordinator, Geospatial FOSSEE (NMEICT), served as the resource person and delivered the keynote address. The event was attended by 1564+ students and 120+ Faculty members covering all departments of the Colleges. This marks a key milestone as TBAKCW steps into the second cycle (2026-2031) as the National Level Open Source Geospatial Knowledge Centre (OSGeospatialKC) dedicated to Women Empowerment. A unique recognition conferred jointly by the Geospatial FOSSEE project and the Rural Data Research and Analysis (RuDRA) Lab, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, under the aegis of the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT), Ministry of Education, Government of India. TBAKCW has committed to expand its Open Source outreach by preparing a calendar of activities for academic years 2026-2027 to 2030-2031.


Thematic FDPs, Workshops, Curriculum inclusion efforts, etc are in the pipeline. Through the Regional Joint Director's office, TBAKCW, as the Open Source Geospatial Knowledge Centre, shall be conducting a major awareness event for the Colleges in the Madurai region in Tamil Nadu spanning seven districts, covering 400+ Colleges in August 2026. Thus, strengthening the grassroots-level presence of the FOSSEE project and the Open Source Geospatial efforts.
